Who Owns the Seahawks Football Team? Meet the Khosla Family
The Khosla family owns the Seattle Seahawks, after closing a record $9.612 billion purchase from the Estate of Paul G. Allen on September 3, 2026.
That's the current answer to who owns the Seahawks football team, per the team's official announcement.
Neeru Khosla is the controlling owner. Her husband, Silicon Valley investor Vinod Khosla, is chair, and their son Neal Khosla is vice chair.
If you still picture Jody Allen celebrating the Super Bowl LX win in February, you're not wrong. She ran the team as chair until the sale closed this September.

Who is the controlling owner of the Seahawks?
Neeru Khosla is the Seahawks' controlling owner. She's also president of the Seahawks Charitable Foundation, according to the team's announcement that the Khosla sale was complete on September 3, 2026.
She trained as a molecular biologist and earned a master's degree from Stanford's Graduate School of Education.
In 2007 she co-founded the CK-12 Foundation, a nonprofit that builds K-12 math and science learning tools. She still runs it as executive director.
Here's something most coverage skips. The team hasn't explained why Neeru, rather than Vinod, holds the controlling-owner title. KOMO News flagged the choice in August 2026, but we found no on-the-record reason, so we won't guess.
Who is Vinod Khosla, the Seahawks chair?
Vinod Khosla is an Indian-American venture capitalist who co-founded Sun Microsystems in 1982 and founded the investment firm Khosla Ventures in 2004. He's 71 and holds the title of Seahawks chair.
His money came in stages. He co-founded Daisy Systems, served as Sun Microsystems' founding CEO, and became a general partner at Kleiner Perkins in 1986, as Gulf News laid out in August 2026.
Khosla Ventures backs AI, robotics, healthcare and climate tech, and made an early institutional investment in OpenAI (Gulf News, August 2026). Forbes ranked him No. 1 on its 2026 Midas List of venture investors, the team noted.

What is Vinod Khosla's net worth?
Forbes estimated Vinod Khosla's net worth at about $13.4 billion as of August 25, 2026, according to Gulf News. Treat that as an estimate, since Forbes figures move with the value of private holdings.
Also worth knowing: the $9.612 billion was paid by the whole ownership group, not the Khoslas alone. The family's exact share hasn't been disclosed.
For a deeper family profile, ESPN's look at who the Khoslas are covers their background and their 49ers connection.
Who is Neal Khosla, the Seahawks vice chair?
Neal Khosla is the CEO and co-founder of Curai Health, an AI-powered primary and urgent care company he started in 2017. He's 33 and serves as the Seahawks' vice chair (Seahawks.com, September 2026).
Before Curai, he was an AI researcher at Stanford, worked in sports analytics, and went through Y Combinator. If that path interests you, see our list of Y Combinator backed Indian startups.
He's also the family's biggest football fan. Neeru Khosla said Neal's lifelong love of the game helped steer the family toward the Seahawks (KOMO News, August 2026).
Who are the Seahawks' co-owners?
Twelve co-owners joined the Khosla family, according to the team's September 3, 2026 release. Their individual stake sizes haven't been made public.
• Mark Stevens
• Aramburuzabala family
• Val Blavatnik
• Sheryl Sokoloff
• Gonzalo Hevia Baillères
• Jesse van der Werf
• Samir Kaul
• Sunny Gupta
• Nader Naini
• Penny Pritzker
• Carlyle and Dynasty Equity
• Sixth Street
A few names stand out. Penny Pritzker is a former U.S. Commerce Secretary, and Carlyle and Sixth Street are large investment firms. Samir Kaul is a longtime partner at Khosla Ventures.

How much did the Khosla family pay for the Seahawks?
The Khosla group paid $9.612 billion, the highest price ever for an NFL team. AP and ESPN reported the figure in July 2026 from people familiar with the deal, and owners approved the sale on August 26.
One honest caveat: the team's own release didn't state the price. Every published number traces back to those reports.
It beat the previous NFL record of $6.05 billion, paid by Josh Harris's group for the Washington Commanders in 2023 (AP). It still falls short of the $10 billion Lakers deal in 2025 (ESPN).
Team | Buyer | Year | Price | Source |
Seattle Seahawks | Khosla family group | 2026 | $9.612B | AP, ESPN |
Washington Commanders | Josh Harris group | 2023 | $6.05B | AP |
Denver Broncos | Walton-Penner family | 2022 | $4.65B | ESPN |
Los Angeles Lakers (NBA) | Mark Walter | 2025 | $10B | ESPN |
What does the Seahawks sale say about sports teams as investments?
Paul Allen paid $194 million for the team in 1997, according to AP. The 2026 price is roughly 49.5 times that.
Spread over 29 years, that's about 14% a year on the purchase price alone. That's our own math, and it leaves out years of spending and income that aren't in public records.
The lesson for founders is scarcity.
There are only 32 NFL teams and owners must approve every buyer, so prices act more like rare real estate than an ordinary business.
Why did the Allen estate sell the Seahawks?
The estate sold because Paul Allen directed that his sports teams eventually be sold, with the proceeds going to philanthropy. That's how the team explained it in its September 2026 announcement.
Allen died in October 2018. His sister, Jody Allen, became executor of his estate and chair of the Seahawks, and ran the club for almost eight years.
The estate began the formal sale process in February 2026, shortly after Seattle beat the New England Patriots 29-13 in Super Bowl LX (AP). It agreed to terms with the Khoslas on July 11, 2026.
Seahawks ownership history: every owner since 1976
The Khoslas are the fourth owners in the team's 51-year history, according to The Seattle Times (July 2026).
Years | Owner | Price paid | Notable |
1976 to 1988 | Nordstrom family-led group | $16M expansion fee | Founding owners |
1988 to 1997 | Ken Behring | $80M | Tried to move the team to Southern California |
1997 to 2018 | Paul Allen | $194M | Won Super Bowl XLVIII (2013 season) |
2018 to 2026 | Estate of Paul G. Allen (Jody Allen, chair) | Inherited | Won Super Bowl LX (2025 season) |
2026 to now | Khosla family group | $9.612B | NFL-record price |

How did Paul Allen keep the Seahawks in Seattle?
Behring started moving the team to Southern California after the 1995 season. Other NFL owners pushed back, and local officials recruited Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen to buy the club (PaulAllen.com).
Allen made the purchase conditional on public money for a stadium to replace the Kingdome. Washington voters approved Referendum 48 on June 17, 1997, and that stadium is today's Lumen Field.
The vote was close. The Seattle Times reported 51.15% in favor in June 2026, though some local outlets have cited a higher figure, so we're going with the Times.
What happened to the Khosla family's 49ers stake?
The Khoslas had to give up their San Francisco 49ers stake as a condition of buying the Seahawks. They bought a little over 3% of the 49ers in 2025 at a valuation above $8.5 billion, per ESPN.
We couldn't find public confirmation of who bought that stake or when it changed hands.
The rivalry twist is real. Neal Khosla said in 2025 that he and his father had held 49ers season tickets for 30 years (The Seattle Times, July 2026).
Then, in January 2026, Vinod and Neal were at Lumen Field for the Seahawks' 41-6 playoff win over San Francisco (MyNorthwest, September 2026).
Are the Seahawks staying in Seattle?
There's no announced plan to move the team. The Seahawks' Lumen Field lease runs through 2032, with three 10-year options, according to AP (July 2026).
That said, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell told KOMO News the sale has no specific clause covering the team's long-term future in Seattle. For now, the lease is the clearest commitment on record.
At the September introduction, Vinod Khosla signaled a light touch: "The best thing we can do is not mess with a lot" (AP, September 2026).
What are the new Seahawks owners' politics?
According to the team's ownership announcement, Vinod Khosla is a registered Independent. He has donated to both Democrats and Republicans and says he backs politicians mainly on their climate policies.
That's the only on-the-record description we found. Searches tying the Seahawks owner to specific politicians are common, but nothing in the official materials backs those claims.
