David Goggins was born on 17th February 1975 in Buffalo, New York, to Trunnis and Jackie Goggins. As a child, Goggins was obese and suffered from a learning disability.
He was frequently bullied and had a rough childhood. He worked at his father’s skating rink at the tender age of 6 years. Once he was old enough, David applied to join the United States Air Force Pararescue. He was accepted into training after failing the test twice.
However, during training, he was detected with sickle cell trait and had to leave. Post-recovery he joined the United States Air Force Tactical Air Control Party (TACP) training program and served there till 1999.
From here, he decided to join the Navy but couldn’t clear the BUD's training program in the first three attempts. Finally, he passed the program graduating with the 235 class in 2001.
